"Yet, in spite of these spectacular strides in science and technology, and still unlimited ones to come, something basic is missing. There is a sort of poverty of the spirit which stands in glaring contrast to our scientific and technological abundance. The richer we have become materially, the poorer we have become morally and spiritually. We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers."

war is not the answer.
the answer is within you.
a campaign, not a war.
my life is a crusade for peace.

dear world (particularly americans):
for those of you who are complaining about the current state of the economy, or are up in arms about the cost of the new healthcare system, please consider the following:
the cost to send ONE TROOP to war in afghanistan for ONE YEAR costs $1,000,000. $1 MILLION DOLLARS. (also, less than 2% of this money goes to the humanitarian sector.)
furthermore, one cannot argue that education combats ignorance and is thus the key to a sustainable, [more] democratic society that has the potential to grow and thrive.
in the country that we are currently at war with, afghanistan, there are 24 higher education schools. the costs to run these schools for ONE YEAR is $248 million dollars.
so, follow my logic…
if we remove 248 troops from the military, we can instead put that $248 million into running those 24 higher education school for ONE YEAR.
put our money into educating the afghani people—and especially the girls.
[in the long-run, education is priceless.]
furthermore: the US troops in afghanistan are now at approximately 100,000, in addition to the 30,000 coalition troops and 130,000 afghanistan troops. so in all, there are 260,000 troops in afghanistan.
compare this to the 9,000 taliban.
260,000…9,000…hmm…something is wrong with this entire picture.
next time you want to complain about the american economy, and want to cut services that provide for our citizens and their well-being—so they can work and live and help our economy prosper—look at the military/war budget.
what we need is less bombs.
what we need is more schools.
what we need is less fire power and more brain power.
we are all connected and tied together in the future of this planet, whether you like it or not. there is no “us” and “them.”
there’s only a “we.”
let us work together.
let us work for peace.
"Worldwide, 32.9 million people have been driven from home by war, persecution, and poverty. The countries where this is more serious are Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo."
