There will never be enough words.

On International Women’s Day, I honor the bravery, courage and compassion embodied by women all over the world working for a better TODAY; the women who have helped shape me as a person and who have taught me what it means to be a human and to love and to live life for others; the women who have walked through doors of Freedom House in search of safety from persecution endured for standing up for human rights. Sending love and light and positive energy to women all around the world who are making ends meet and making changes. Today is for YOU. Thank you.

happy birthday, Dr. King.

"

I was lucky to learn at a young age that your neighbors can truly change your life, like you’ve changed mine…But now five years after becoming a pop artist, young activist and a traveling gypsy – as I have no residence – I have learned that in fact the universe is so wide and so enormous that we are actually, on this earth, all neighbors. The earth is much smaller and much more vulnerable than we all think.

[…]

So world, breed compassion. Can we put compassion above all things? Can we be brave enough to fight for peace with no fight at all?

Peace TODAY.

Another year has come and gone, and the day is finally here.

Today is the UN International Day of Peace.

I’m celebrating and honoring this day in two ways: (1) my colleague, friend, and brother Koffi from western African is being sworn in as a United States citizen; and (2) I will spend it with my Freedom House family, a group of truly remarkable individuals who personify peace. Let this just be the beginning.

How will you make peace today?

Let today be a gateway into a lifetime of peace. (Peace One Day)

please, please, please. this if extremely important to me. vote and reblog.

Freedom House is participating in the Chase Community Giving program this year.  Chase will donate $5M to the top 196 charities that receive the most votes.

Please consider voting for Freedom House (the organization with the DETROIT adress!) and reblogging this post.

Vote HERE.

By voting for Freedom House, you are helping us to continue providing comprehensive services (food, shelter, clothing, personal amenities, legal aid, medical care, mental care, socialization, recreation, and acculturation, and transitional housing) to political refugees who are seeking political asylum in the United States.  We assist those who have stood up for democracy, freedom, justice, human rights, and peace in their home countries.  These individuals have had to flee their country as a result, to literally save their life.

Your vote would mean the world to me, and could literally mean the difference between a life saved and a life killed. For example, these funds can help prevent the following scenario: If we don’t have the funds to provide services, someone is unable to receive legal aid, among other things, will be put into removal proceedings before an immigration judge, and sent home to his/her death.

Bonus Vote: Sign in with Facebook and you can get us another vote! A Facebook user can earn one (1) bonus vote by allowing “Access” and sharing any content from the Chase Community Giving application to his/her Facebook newsfeed or timeline.

Please help us out!

Click HERE to vote for us! (Make sure it’s the DETROIT Freedom House!)

Thank you all so much.

Peace and love.

RAMADAN MUBARAK to all my Muslim brothers and sisters.

a personal goal of mine this year, this month, is to partake in fasting for 5-7 days (from sunrise to sunset). i wish to do this to be in solidarity with my Muslim family and friends, live and learn, as well as experience one of the most sacred parts of Islam.
